THREE TIPS FOR ORGANIZING YOUR CHAOS

1.
CLEAR IT:

Recycle and/or shred all unwanted mail immediately upon receipt.  If you don’t need it, toss it or shred it right away and avoid leaving it on the kitchen counter or desktop.

Put items to be donated in your car immediately.  Be sure to drop off these items as soon as possible to avoid transferring the unwanted clutter from your home to your car.

Recycle your magazines by sharing them with friends.  Consider starting a “magazine swap” at work or donate them to your local library or doctor’s office.  Recycle newspapers as soon as they are read.  Avoid leaving them on the living room table.

2.
CONTAIN IT:

Keep labeled folders close by for storing bills and other important paperwork until you have time to get to it.

Create storage solutions at hand for stray household items.

Have a box, basket, or bin in each room for children’s toys.

Set up a container by the front door to place all items that have to be returned or delivered.

3.
CONTROL IT:

Control the urge to shop for more “stuff” by asking yourself  these questions:

“Do I need it?”
“Can I afford it?”
“Do I have a place for it?”

Sort through your clothing and determine what you really love to wear and what hasn’t been worn for months/years and limit how many items you store in your closets.  We all have our favorites and if something hasn’t been worn or used, maybe someone else can benefit from its use.

Control the amount of things you keep.  For every item you purchase, be sure to discard another.

Good habits and good systems in place are essential to keeping your chaos organized.  Then, when “life happens”, it’s easy to get back on track.
